XR South West uprising
6 September 2019 at 6:00 pm – 8 September 2019 at 7:00 pm£5 – £35
Extinction Rebellion will be taking to the streets (around the world!!!) this Autumn on the 7th October for mass civil disobedience in response to the government inadequate action of the Ecological Crisis. Our Rising Tide SW Rebel Fest campout will help you to get involved in a way that you feel comfortable with and also help you to get to know your fellow South West rebels a little better.
As well as informative and inspiring talks and trainings on the climate & ecological crisis, this weekend will be packed with chances to learn about the impact of climate breakdown, attend training & workshops, and find out ways we can take action for the future of our planet, not to mention- have a good old knees up with some of the BEST musicians around (acts will be released shortly!).
What to expect from the camp?
The camp will be held in the beautiful Tapeley Park gardens where the OffGrid festival usually takes place. We will run workshops, trainings and have musical entertainment on the Saturday and Sunday and we will be setting up on Friday so please do come to help if you are able to.
We will have a Wellbeing Sanctuary, Nature Connection Yurt, Art Factory, Spoken Word Tent, Extinction Cafe, Closing Ceremony & Feast (more will be announced closer to the date). We will work to make the site as accessible as possible, but it will be outdoors. Once on site everyone is crew and we all pitch in to help.
Food: A range of delicious vegetarian & vegan food stalls will be available, with some on a donations basis.
Family It is a family-friendly event with a kids space with activities, toys, books and games for children.
What should I bring? A friend who may want to find out more about XR! You should bring a torch, tent, suncream, a picnic blanket, yoga mat, a sleeping bag, cutlery/drinking bottle/bowl, and warm clothes if you are camping. We would like to be a plastic free event, so please bring reusable items and take your rubbish home with you.
Transport: We will organise a shuttle bus from the train station in Barnstaple and will post more details soon. Parking is also available onsite, please do try to car share where possible if this is your chosen means of transport, we also have limited parking space. Please post on the event page if you are looking for a liftshare space or if you are able to offer a liftshare and from where.
Dogs: We are sorry but we are unable to allow dogs at the event except under special circumstances, please get in contact to enquire.
Safer spaces policy: We have a safer spaces policy for all to agree to. You can see this on your ticket and it will be available in your programme. We are all crew to look after each other but in the event of any incidences or feeling unsafe, please find the steward team.
Tickets are being sold on a donations basis (and will range between £5-35 on a supported to sponsored ticket). We are also offering limited camping places on the Friday and Saturday night, these will include breakfast (suggested donation of @£10 per night, suggested donation of £5 per child over 5). Do get in contact if you require further assistance or if you would like to contribute more to the event. We will also save a few tickets for the door if the event is sold out. It’s quite expensive to run a camp so we hope people do donate but for those who cannot donate much or at all, that is no problem as the camp should be inclusive for all who want to take action, or please feel free to donate your time to stewarding or helping with the setup! We would love for everyone to sign up for 1 shift if they feel able to.
