What does the popularity of socialism in the USA mean?
April 6 at 2:00 am - 4:00 pm
Bernie Sanders is making another run for President. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has exploded to around 60,000 members. Polls show wide support for socialism in the USA, particularly among young people. Meanwhile a wave of teachers’ strikes have revived the labour movement, alongside opposition to Trump, growing support for Palestine and battles against oppression from #MeToo to #BlackLivesMatter.
What do people in the USA understand by socialism? What has caused this radicalisation? What are the parallels and differences between the Sanders phenomenon and Corbynism, and between the Democratic Party and the Labour Party?
