Tories in crisis: what comes next?

29 June at 6:00 pm8:00 pm

The final collapse of Theresa May’s government has unleashed chaos in the Conservative Party. For the second time in three years, Tory MPs will select a new Prime Minister behind closed doors from among themselves, and every candidate represents a faltering neoliberal project which no longer has a lock on public support. Whoever wins the leadership contest, we may soon be thrust into a new General Election.

rs21 is holding an open forum discussion on 29 June in Central London on the next few months in British politics and how the left can act strategically for maximum effect. We need to move forward on several fronts – pushing back austerity, rebuffing the rising far right, and asserting the rights of migrants and refugees, whatever the outcome of the Brexit manoeuvres. This meeting is open to the public and non-members are very welcome.

Neil Davidson will kick off the discussion with an analysis of the roots of the crisis and its potential outcomes. Neil is a historian and the author of various books including How Revolutionary were the Bourgeois Revolutions?
