The politics of mutual aid

17 December 2020 at 8:00 pm9:30 pm

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, local mutual aid groups have been set up across Britain, and in many other countries around the world. These groups have been geographically eclectic and can be reluctant to discuss politics – but they have still offered the possibility of local politicisation and provided connections which we could not have expected at the beginning of the pandemic.
As the economic crisis begins to set in, and homelessness and unemployment rises, South London rs21 are holding a discussion to update our understanding of Mutual Aid groups. Over six months on, are Mutual Aid grounds still worth engaging in and do they offer prospects for long-term community transformation?
Julian and Luke from rs21 are going to lead the discussion, by providing an introduction into the history of mutual aid in theory and practice, and then discussing mutual aid during the Covid-19 pandemic.
