Radical St Pancras Walk

18 September 2021 at 2:00 pm4:00 pm

A radical walk around St Pancras, London on Saturday 18 September starting at 2pm outside the British Library.
Mary Wollstonecraft was originally buried in the cemetery, Karl Marx applied for a job at Kings Cross as a ticket clerk (which he didn’t get because no-one could read his handwriting), John Lawrence (a Trotskyist and then Communist) became mayor and in 1959 raised the red flag over the town hall. A rent strike in 1960 led to rioting by furious tenants.
In the streets there is housing inspired by Red Vienna and some excellent examples of municipal housing. As well as the Pugin-esque St Pancras station and a rather lovely Arts & Crafts fire station (still in use).
It is going to be a gentle stroll and it might be nice to walk the streets and end up at the house where Friedrich Engels lived in Regents Park Road.
All welcome and please invite friends
