Insurgency around the world
8 February at 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
In more and more places, people are taking to the streets in massive numbers against state repression, imperialism and the hard right.
It’s vital that we learn about these movements to identify opportunities for solidarity and to draw implications for our own organising here in Britain. In the context of British imperialism, we also have to train our sights on the actions and interests of our own state.
Speakers will discuss the anti-extradition movement in Hong Kong, the opposition to the imperialist coup in Bolivia and uprisings in Algeria, Iraq and Morocco.
The meeting is in room B18 in the basement at Birkbeck.
• Olivia Arigho Stiles is a journalist who has written extensively on Bolivia. You can read her piece on the coup against Morales here: https://www.rs21.org.uk/2019/11/13/bolivia-thisisacoup/
• Meriam Mabrouk is a researcher and translator of Arabic-speaking revolutionary movements. She’ll be speaking on Algeria, Morocco and Iraq.
• Colin Sparks has recently arrived from Hong Kong where he wrote regular reports on the movement: https://www.rs21.org.uk/author/colin_sparks/
