How should revolutionaries organise today?
14 August 2019 at 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Most revolutionary activists agree that, in order to put an end to capitalism, we need to organise on a long-term basis. But there are sharp divisions around what form that organising should take.
Attempts in previous decades to build mass revolutionary parties have run out of steam, dwindles, become sterile and split. Other anti-capitalist revolutionaries put their energies into small decentralised projects, while many others have joined the left wing of the Labour Party.
rs21 members believe that there is still a real need for revolutionary organisations which can act cohesively and maintain their independence from reformism and the state – but we need to radically re-examine the form those organisations should take. Above all, we need organisations that engage in a flexible way with movements against oppression and exploitation and imbibe new ideas and influences from the world around them, rather than clinging rigidly to a small set of their own ideas.
Ian Allinson, rs21’s National Organiser, will kick off an open discussion about revolutionary politics today and the conditions surrounding it.
