Capital and the State

4 July at 3:00 pm5:00 pm

To follow up on our discussion of The Ruling Class Does Not Rule by Fred Block (https://jacobinmag.com/2020/4/ruling-class-capitalist-state-reform-theory) we will discuss part one of Colin Barker’s essay Notes on Capital and the State https://www.rs21.org.uk/2019/01/25/revolutionary-reflections-notes-on-capital-and-the-state-part-1/.

In this essay Colin takes as his starting point Marx and Engel’s writings on the state, which are primarily found in their writings on contemporary political events, and goes on to look at how the state might alternatively be analysed using the analysis of capitalist society Marx wrote in Capital.

The article is a 44 minute read.
