American Decline and the Rise of China
31 August 2019 at 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
In the last 25 years, China has become one of the world’s superpowers, challenging the USA’s political, economic and military dominance. Trump’s tariff wars have highlighted the growing tensions between the world’s two biggest economies, and threaten further shocks as retaliations multiply. China’s rise is in part due to America’s decline, but is it any better than western imperialism? As the growing protest movement in Hong Kong shows, China is seen as a new oppressor by many.
Manchester rs21 are hosting a meeting on Saturday 31 August to discuss these and many other issues, led off by Charlie Hore, who has been writing on China and the world economy for many years.
